M.V. Lomonosov’s Great Gold Medal

Two M.V. Lomonosov’s Great Gold Medals are awarded annually for outstanding achievements in natural and human sciences – one to a Russian scientist and one to a foreign scientist. Expert commission is attached to the RAS Presidium.

The M.V. Lomonosov’s Gold Medal was instituted by the enactment No. 851 of the USSR Cabinet Council of June 23, 1956. It was specified in the enactment that the medal is awarded one in three years for outstanding works in natural and engineering sciences.

It is indicated in the resolution No. 400 of the USSR Academy of Sciences Presidium of August 3, 1956 that the medal is awarded to soviet scientists. By the resolution No. 462 of the USSR Academy of Sciences Presidium of August 24, 1956 the year 1959 was assigned as the first year of the medal award. Description of the medal was approved by the resolution No. 640 of the USSR Academy of Sciences Presidium of October 3, 1958. Regulation on the medal was approved by the resolution No. 909 of the USSR Academy of Sciences Presidium of November 24, 1967. The Academy was granted a right to award two golden medals by the enactment No. 612 of the USSR Cabinet Council of July 7, 1967.

Awarded for outstanding achievements in natural and human sciences. Two Gold Medals are awarded annually - one to a Russian scientist and one to a foreign scientist.
